About This Route
The Xi'an–Chengdu high-speed railway is an engineering marvel, tunneling through the Qinling Mountains that historically separated northern and southern China. What once took 16 hours now takes just 3.5 hours, connecting the Terracotta Warriors with the Giant Pandas.
Which Train Should You Take?
G-trains take 3–3.5 hours through some of China's most dramatic mountain scenery. About 20 daily services operate. The route includes the world's first high-speed rail crossing of the Qinling range — expect long tunnels interspersed with stunning valley views.
Seat Classes
Second class handles 3.5 hours well. Window seats are highly recommended for the mountain scenery — the Qinling section is genuinely spectacular. First class offers slightly larger windows and better recline for napping through the tunnel sections.
