About This Route

The Beijing–Guangzhou high-speed line is the world's longest high-speed railway at 2,298 km, slashing what was once a 22-hour journey to just 8 hours. It runs through the heart of China, passing Zhengzhou, Wuhan, and Changsha before reaching subtropical Guangzhou.

Which Train Should You Take?

G-trains cover the full distance in 7.5–8 hours. For such a long ride, consider breaking the journey in Wuhan or Changsha. D-trains are not available on this route. A few Z-trains (overnight sleepers) still operate for budget travelers who want to save on accommodation.

Seat Classes

For an 8-hour journey, first class is worth the upgrade — the wider seats and extra legroom make a real difference. If sticking with second class, grab an aisle seat for easier movement. Business class exists but is expensive for such a long haul.

Tips for This Route

Beijing West is the departure station. Pack food and water — 8 hours is a long time with only a dining car. Charge your devices fully; not all older G-trains have working outlets at every seat. The scenery changes dramatically from north to south — window seats are rewarding.
