Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive by High-Speed Train: Guilin City, Lakes & Local Noodles
Your guide meets you at Guilin West or Guilin North Station, or at Guilin Liangjiang Airport if you fly in. We time the first day around your arrival instead of forcing a rushed sightseeing checklist.
If you arrive by bullet train, your guide helps with the station exit, luggage, and the 25-40 minute transfer into town. Guilin West is common for trains from Guangzhou South and Shenzhen North, while Guilin North is often easier for downtown hotels.
After hotel check-in, ease into the city with Elephant Trunk Hill (象鼻山), Guilin's riverfront landmark. It is a short, photogenic stop rather than a long museum-style visit: the best angle is from across the water, where the natural stone arch looks like an elephant drinking from the Li River.
Late afternoon is kept flexible. Choose a relaxed walk around the Two Rivers and Four Lakes (两江四湖), or follow your guide into the old lanes near Zhengyang Pedestrian Street for Guilin rice noodles (桂林米粉), oil tea, and simple local snacks. This first evening is designed to reset after the train ride and prepare for the Li River day ahead.
Li River Slow Cruise to Yangshuo & Xianggong Hill at Golden Hour
Leave Guilin after breakfast for the Li River pier. We book the better 4-star cruise when available, because deck space and onboard comfort matter on a 4-5 hour journey.
The cruise follows the classic Guilin-to-Yangshuo waterway: folded karst peaks, bamboo groves, river bends, water buffalo, and the Yellow Cloth Shoal (黄布倒影), the landscape associated with China's ¥20 banknote. Your guide helps you choose when to stay outside for photos and when to sit back for the quieter stretches.
After docking in Yangshuo, do not rush straight back. Walk a calmer riverside section, stop for coffee or fruit, or browse West Street before the crowds build. This gives the tour a more relaxed Yangshuo feel rather than treating the town as only a cruise endpoint.
In the late afternoon, drive about 30 minutes to Xianggong Hill (相公山). The climb is short but steep, roughly 20 minutes of steps. From the top, the Li River bends through layers of karst peaks below you. If the weather is clear, this is the best single viewpoint of the trip.
Return to Guilin by private car in the evening, or ask us to switch the second night to Yangshuo if you prefer a countryside stay.
Reed Flute Cave, Flexible Departure & Onward Train Planning
Use the final morning for Reed Flute Cave (芦笛岩), a limestone cave known for large chambers, stalactites, and a constant cool temperature. Visiting it on departure day keeps Day 1 lighter and gives you a weather-proof activity before your train or flight.
If your departure is early, we skip the cave and focus on a smooth transfer. If your departure is late, you can add a short city stop, a local market walk, or a longer lunch instead.
Your guide then sends you to Guilin North or Guilin West Station with enough buffer for security checks and boarding. Popular onward rail links include Guangzhou South in about 2.5 hours, Shenzhen North in about 3 hours, Changsha South in about 2.5 hours, and Guiyang North in about 2.5 hours.
For a longer rail itinerary, this Guilin tour connects well with Hong Kong or Guangzhou before arrival, and with Zhangjiajie, Changsha, or Guizhou after departure. We can help choose the station and train timing so the sightseeing days do not feel squeezed.
